The Benefits of Hypnotherapy
WHAT IS HYPNOTHERAPY? (Webster’s Dictionary) Hypnotherapy is the treatment of disease and disorders through the use of hypnosis.
WHAT KIND OF PROBLEMS CAN BE HELPED THROUGH HYPNOTHERAPY?
For Hypnotherapy to be effective, the problem or need must be perceived as both real and immediate. If you are at the end or your rope, hypnotherapy can benefit you in many ways, such as:
Hypnotherapy is the complementary method of wellness that uses the healing power of the subconscious mind. Often times it is the alternative method and the most effective. “Complementary and alternative to what?” you ask.
Hypnotherapy is complementary to traditional medical practices That means it is effectively used along with the treatment given by the physician or other care practitioners.
For example: Hypnotherapy will help a person quit smoking when the physician is insisting that smoking cessation is necessary for the proper management of a disease. Many times the patient does not have the willpower, or the motivation, to stop smoking when he is suffering from other ailments.
Through hypnosis, the hypnotherapist is able to reach the center of the mind, where habits are formed, and guide the patient into a control system that enables him to give up the damaging habit within a very short period of time. In this way the treatment is complementary to health management by the physician.
What about it being an alternative method? Does that mean hypnotherapy is to be used instead of traditional medicine? Absolutely not! However, in many cases traditional treatment is not available to some people for some situations.
For example: Some individuals are allergic to anesthesia, yet must undergo surgery. Hypnosis can be used as wither a local or general anesthetic. Some people feel that by using a skin patch they will be able to stop smoking but, without the proper motivation, they will fail. Through hypnosis they often find success, because hypnotherapy works on motivation instead of giving a different source of nicotine as does the patch system.
Today, many health professionals, including physicians, dentists, psychologists and psychiatrists use hypnotherapy as either a complementary or alternative method of patient care and healing.
However, because hypnotherapy is generally time consuming, (talking forty-five minutes to an hour per session) many medical professionals prefer refer this therapy out to a qualified specialist.
The specialist is a hypnotherapist with a practice centered upon the discipline of hypnotherapy. The referring of a patient to a hypnotherapist is much the same as a physician referring a patient to a physical therapist when specialized treatment of a physical nature is needed.
Pastors who engage in considerable counseling are referring congregation members to spiritually centered hypnotherapist. Many pastors have become qualified hypnotherapist themselves, and are members of the Society of Clergy Hypnotists.
Hypnotherapy is a non-invasive, non-chemical, natural method of wellness. It is a method that uses the powers of healing contained in each of us to affect cures or re-establish a state of good health.
In general, hypnotherapy is a natural method of reaching the subconscious mind where habits are formed. When working with a hypnotherapist, you are able to reprogram your subconscious to break bad habits and form new healthy habits. It is really very easy and simplistic.
Consider some of the most common ways hypnotherapy is being used today. The following is a list of just a few areas that will give you an idea of the scope of the practice of hypnotherapy:
